A very well attended New Years Day swim with the pool temperature at a balmy 9.2°C much improved than the recent low of 4.8° seen on the 9th December
there was a lovely, friendly, sociable atmosphere. Friendly, helpful lifeguards – oh, & free mince pies & mulled wine..

The Ponds + Live Q&A (12A)
Sunday 3rd March, 17:30
We’re delighted to welcome directors Patrick McLennan and Samuel Smith for a Live Q&A following this screening.
“Full of uncomplicated happiness in a way that most documentaries aren’t.”
– 4* The Guardian
“A celebration of life and how swimming can make it even better.”
“A gentle portrait of a part of England which should never be lost.”
In a world of flux and chaos, it is almost a shock to discover some experiences remain natural, unhurried and unchanged.
In the middle of London lies Hampstead Heath, 320 hectares of forest and parkland plus three swimming ponds. People swim in them all year round, whatever the weather, just as they did in the time of Keats and Constable.
Capturing the beauty of the English seasons, co-directors Patrick McLennan and Samuel Smith filmed the swimmers over 12 months as they laughed, sang, complained, ruminated, philosophised or simply sought respite from all that life threw at them.

Jesus Green Pool is one of the few survivors of the lidos built in the UK during the 1920s. Tynemouth Outdoor Pool – like many others – fell into disuse in the 1990s. Today it’s a sad and crumbling rockpool. Now, a charity is raising funds to see it renovated. They’ve launched a community shares offer and so far attracted pledges of more than £300,000. You can help ensure that Tynemouth gets the kind of pool that makes us all love our summers in Cambridge! You can register your interest, find out more, or just spread the word here:

Below is another Tee shirt, on a Carlsberg theme, designed by another long term member Francis’s son.
