Thanks to everyone who baked, barbequed and ate at the Friends of Jesus Green Lido’s Ukraine fundraiser. Together, we raised more than £500 for the Disasters Emergency Committee Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal https://donation.dec.org.uk/ukraine-humanitarian-appeal
The Council have a group of volunteers coming down to Jesus Green on Wednesday 2 March between 10 am-2 pm to carry out some gardening on the new hedges as they are tangled with weeds and just wanted to extend this to the Friends to see if any of them would like to help.
For many years the friends have held a winter party during the period of the pool closure, originally by invitation to a friend’s house but more recently at Hobbs Pavilion on Parker’s Piece.
These events were enjoyed by all but last winter there was no event so this year, with Covid continuing, we decided to get together socially at the lido.
After our morning swims (for some!) tables were set up and were soon full of food to share, warm mulled wine was served and the café was open for hot drinks.
The sun came out and we all enjoyed the opportunity for a friendly chat with old and new friends – over 50 people attending.
As with New Year’s Day, the interest and attendance at the event goes to prove how worthwhile the winter opening of the lido has been.
Thanks to Better & their staff for their help and support. Thanks to Antony & Will for the pictures & Richard forthe write up

Winter celebration
Sunday 16th January 2022
11.00 – 12.00 @ the Lido
After a particularly good year at the pool, please join us for another chance to meet and socialise.
Many of you will have enjoyed our previous winter gatherings at Hobbs Pavilion but in this year of Covid, we’ve decided that it’s appropriate to meet at the pool.
Better have agreed to host the event on Sunday until 12.00 (the swim times remain 07.00 – 11.00), the café will be open but bring along food and drink to share – we plan to have a gazebo in case of rain.
So come along, have a swim (before 11.00)!
Join us there!
Two exciting photo opportunities and we need as many of you to come along as possible!
On Monday 20 December 2021 at 4.45 pm and at 6.15 pm, ITV wish to do some live filming at the Lido. So the more people present the better (preferably some of you in the water!).
On Saturday 1 January 2022 at 11 amthe Mayor is coming along and there will be a photograph taken with swimmers/ Friends of the Lido.
Please put these dates in your diary and come along, with friends and family.
Please join us at the Friends of Jesus Green Lido AGM on Zoom. It’s a chance to connect with the Committee, discover more about the lido’s past, present and future, and get more involved in your swimming community.
We will be reporting on our successes in 2021, recruiting new committee members, and looking forward to celebrating Jesus Green Lido’s forthcoming centenary.
Come along! Join us! Have your say! at the:
Friends of Jesus Green Lido AGM, Wednesday 12 January 2022 at 7.00 pm.
Information for those planning to join our visit to Felixstowe on 10th
October – please note that the Felixstowe Triathlon will be taking place
on this day. Consequently, the town is likely to be busy and car parking
will, no doubt, be at a premium.
However, there should still be plenty of space in the sea for our swim!
Although we don’t yet know when, or if, our pool will close for the winter we plan to make our usual autumn visit to Felixstowe on Sunday 10th October
Meet on the beach near the Fludyers Hotel at approximately 11.30 for a swim then a walk, coffee and perhaps fish and chips. Please be aware that this is an informal arrangement and that we cannot take any responsibility for organising transport – we suggest that individuals arrange appropriate car sharing. Alternatively, travel by train should be possible by catching the 09.00 train from Cambridge arriving at 11.21 with a change at Ipswich. Return services run hourly @ 15.25, 16.25 etc. High tide should be at approximately 15.00
